Your green Circus Punk Doll is like two worlds meeting, pyschedilic and punk rock combined, when I was looking at pictures of your doll, in my mind I thought of the band The Ramones and their cover for an album, aptly named The Acid Eaters, but that is of course in my mind. Where did the inspiration for the work come from and the influence of the colours in it?
My influence of colours are from the old zombie films and psychedelic colours of the 70's rock n roll bands.
You took part in Tag The System, in June this year in Paris which had 100 artist's tagging a 50cm model of subway cars. What was that experience like and how did it feel to work with so many different artists?
It wasn't the first time I've done a collective exhibit, I have participated to several ones, like the Munny show, the Bunny Qee show, WIWP shows, In Plush We Trust, Plushtarstrophe... But it was a cool experience to make that kind of show in France with spray artists and illustrator friends.
Being a French Artist, what is it like crossing the Channel and having exhibitions in London and how does it differ, if at all, in your opinion to exhibitions in France?
I think that the exhibitions in France are differents but good for artists. Make exhibits in my own country is important for me. But the first exhibition in solo was out of France (Kidrobot NYC). Things are not really different. People are cool everywhere I think.
Can you tell me about "My Sick Brain?"
Ah ah! It is a private joke, because at the start of my career everybody was thinking that I was mad (I am a lil but not that mad I've been described) I mean by, my sick brain the relationI do between human race and monsters, I draw monsters since I am a young kid and my parents were afraid about that, I was drawning monsters, kaijus, zombies. I have always been attracted by strange and bizarre things. I am a monster who do monsters that afraid anybody.
Do you skateboard and if not, is there any connection in your work to skateboard graphics?
I have done skateboard when I was younger, but I have stopped since a long time. But I love the skate design, I have been impressed by the Zorlac boards from Pushead, I have grown with the Santa Cruz boards designs and all the rock n roll infuences that those design are charged. The board design is a free design, designers use the typography like anybody else, the colors are wonderful and powerful.
Your personal website and Y6F, can you tell me about them and why they started and how they have grown?
Youth Grafix Family is an old project. It was to make a connect with my designer friends and people. It was the first step to make the War Of Monstars book that includes dsigners I like.
Where does the fascination with plush toys come from?
This fascination comes from the envy to make things with my wife who does plush. I do designs and she make all the monsters. It is very cool to see kids with monsters in their hands cause they are not really afraid by them.
Is there any favouritism for you between creating 2-D and 3-D creations and why?
I prefer to work on 2D but when I do customs or designs for toys it is a cool stuff, I love that. I love the both, cause I use to draw (in 2D) but painting on a toy is cool cause it gives to the illustrate another dimension.
Tell me about the freelance agency We Do Dat; how long it has been going and who is involved in it?
We Do Dat is on the way of YGF. It is the same people. It is not a freelance agency but a group of friends that loves graphic design and illustration in all the support. This collective is composed by Enileda, Meda, Ilk One, Stenkat... I am now in a collective calle LVL (Level Art) that is composed by Dob(r)man, Strom, Deuce, Llor, Garnment...
I read that you are a big Japan Animation fan, personally my favourite is Ninja Scroll which takes place in Fuedal Japan with incredible demons and sorcery in it. What is your favourite or most inspirational animation if you had to pick one and how have the animation films inspired your work?
I am more influenced by kaiju eiga films like Godzilla. But I have recently seen the anime called Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror. That is based on monsters and Japanese legends it is a very cool anime. So if I have to choose one between the five horror/anime/sick films I see by week it will be hard :) my favourite are : Freaks, Zombies, Akira, Mononoke Hime and Godzilla vs Hedorah. But I can't say THE ONE IW like. I have recently seen the Masters Of Horror show and it is fabulous too...
