So, can you tell me a little about yourself? Name, age, some background info, etc?
Stevie Gee aged twenty five. Married with one son and another baby on the way. I have lightning in my blood. Sometimes known as Dusty Wolf - I play the banjo badly. North London is my dwelling.
I can definitely see a unique style in your artwork. Have you always had this?
Have I always had a unique style? I hope so. Bad style is better than no style.
Where do you draw your inspiration from? Favorite illustrators/artists?
The Bible, Horror, monsters, demons, wild beasts, forests, wildness in general, Raymond Pettibon, Maurice Sendak, Jim Phillips, Willliam Blake, Caravaggio, Sarah Gee, Tim Hill (Bivouac), S.E.Hinton, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Misfits, QOTSA, Kyuss etc.
How do you go about your illustrations? Do you have a routine?
Some just come in dreams or as pictures like flashes in my head when I smoke pipe, drink whisky, consult the wolves. Staying up all night listening to guitars and sweating with fear of failure.
Tell us a little about the development of your personal technique.
Hand drawn style with some gnarly clashing colours thrown in lines taken out. Screen print style, usually 2-6 colours.
Do you have a sketchbook? How often do you draw in it?
Many sketchbooks..I used to draw almost everyday but now it's as often as I can.
You used to skate a lot when you were younger.. What got you into it, back in the old days? Do you believe that there are similarities between skateboarding and art?
Friends and videos got me into it. I loved skating and still do, I want my sons to be the rippers that I never was. Skating is better than art in many ways, there is less pretence in skating. Skating is hard and dirty and you get hurt - I like that. Ultimately true creativity will just happen, skating, art, music.. its all the same. Ed Templeton, the Gonz and so many English rippers besides.
That's some crazy graphics you,ve designed for these boards...What the hell's it all about?
Hair on the back, claws deep blood on the breeze.
What advice would you give to students of art and illustration or people who are looking to break into the world of paid work?
Work hard and meet deadlines. Dont expect to get paid at first.
What are your interests outside of illustration?
Wife and kids, Rock and metal, folk and country, goodness and evil, wolves and lightning, knives and fists, clowns and pipes, skate and destroy,
Where can we find your artwork? Where would we have seen it?
Probably nowhere but possibly in some magazines, Clothes in Japan, decks in Latvia and London, within your sub-conscious or at steviegee.com or with my agent stemagency.com.
Anything else you'd like to say... Any recommendations, hello's etc?
Sarah Gee. Jesse Leonard Gee. Team Unicorn. God bless you and God bless me.
